How do I prepare a character for PvP?

A PvP build has to balance damage, survival, speed and specific options against the server's metagame.

For PvP, go over the whole character, not just the weapon.

• Stats.
• Set.
• Weapon.
• Shield, where it applies.
• Wings.
• Rings.
• Pendant.
• Harmony.
• Sockets.
• Seeds.
• Master Tree.
• Buffs.

Then test your real damage against different classes. A build that is perfect on paper can be poor into certain matchups.
